ProRep Bio Life Leaf Litter Forest 3L
About This Product
ProRep Bio Life Leaf Litter Forest is a loose, natural hardwood leaf-litter layer for forest- and woodland-style bioactive enclosures. Spread it over a suitable substrate to create the upper leaf layer found across a natural woodland floor.
The 3L pack adds a textured, natural-looking finish while giving enclosure inhabitants extra cover, hiding opportunities and environmental enrichment. It is suitable for appropriate reptile, amphibian and invertebrate bioactive environments.
As the leaves gradually break down, they contribute organic material to the substrate below and can support live plants and the wider bioactive environment.

Bioactive Habitat Benefits
- Builds up the look and texture of a forest-floor leaf layer over your chosen substrate.
- Adds sheltered areas and natural cover for enclosure inhabitants.
- Provides extra environmental enrichment through a more varied enclosure surface.
- Helps support moisture regulation within a suitable bioactive environment.
- Breaks down gradually to enrich the substrate and help support live plant growth.
Composition & Natural Variation
Made from sustainably sourced hardwood leaves, including poplar, maple and birch. These leaf types are part of the natural Forest mixture and may vary in balance from pack to pack.
The leaves are supplied loose rather than as a compressed block, making it easy to create a layered surface with fine pieces below and larger leaves above.
Natural variation is expected. Leaf pieces can differ in size, shape and colour, and the mixture may include stalks and small twigs.
How to Use
Scatter the leaf litter over a suitable substrate and build up a complete finished layer approximately 3–4cm deep. This product is designed as an upper litter layer rather than a replacement for the main substrate or drainage layer.
Optional layered setup method
- Break a portion of the leaf litter into finer pieces by hand.
- Spread the fine material over the substrate to form a starter layer at least 1cm deep.
- Lightly mist this finer layer to help hold it in place.
- Add less-broken or whole leaves over the top until the complete litter layer reaches approximately 3–4cm.
The finer material below can provide a more protected microhabitat for custodians, while the larger leaves above add surface structure, cover and a more natural woodland appearance.
Establishment, Maintenance & Suitability
- Where practical, establish the litter layer around 3–4 weeks before introducing animals so the bioactive layer has time to begin developing.
- Top up or replace the leaf litter approximately every 4–6 months as it naturally decomposes.
- Refresh the layer sooner if it has broken down enough to reduce the intended surface cover or depth.
- Choose the full enclosure setup, substrate depth, moisture level and planting around the needs of the particular species being kept.
This leaf litter can be used alongside other suitable ProRep Bio Life leaf-litter formats when you want added depth or more varied surface structure.
Companion products are sold separately and are not included. Leaf litter is one part of a bioactive enclosure and does not replace suitable substrate, drainage, clean-up crew, plants or routine enclosure care.
