ProRep Beech Chips Coarse Grade is a loose hardwood substrate for covering the floor of suitable animal enclosures. This 10-litre pack contains coarse beech chips that create a dry, natural-looking enclosure base.
The durable chips are positioned as a dust-free, economical choice for regular enclosure maintenance. They are straightforward to spot-clean and can help reduce enclosure odours when kept clean and dry.
This is a dry substrate for animals whose husbandry needs suit a dry or low-humidity enclosure floor. It should not be used damp.

Material & Grade
Made from European beech hardwood sourced from sustainable PEFC-certified forests. The bark is removed before the wood is chipped, then the chips are kiln-dried before packing.

Suitable Use
Suitable for many larger snakes and lizards where their individual husbandry requirements call for a dry or low-humidity substrate. It is also positioned for birds and small mammals where dry hardwood-chip bedding is appropriate for their housing needs.
How to Use
Spread the chips evenly across the enclosure floor to create a dry substrate layer.

The normal 2.5–5cm depth applies only when the substrate is not being used above a heat mat.
Cleaning & Replacement
- Replace the full substrate layer every two to three weeks.
- Replace sooner if the substrate becomes wet or heavily soiled.
Regular cleaning helps maintain a clean, dry enclosure floor and supports the substrate’s odour-reducing benefit.
Heat-Mat Safety
When using this substrate above a heat mat, the chip layer must not exceed 1cm.
- Position the thermostat sensor on the heat mat.
- Follow the heat-mat and thermostat manufacturer’s instructions.
- Do not use the normal 2.5–5cm substrate depth over a heat mat.
