About This Product

ProRep Tortoise Life BIO is a 10-litre loose reptile substrate made for naturalistic enclosures for tortoises from dry habitats, particularly Mediterranean and Russian tortoises. Its loose, soil-like finish gives tortoises a more natural floor surface for digging and burrowing.

The blend retains moisture to help create lightly dampened areas for local humidity where needed, while allowing the main enclosure floor to be managed for dry-habitat species. It is also labelled as suitable for many lizard species from similar dry habitats.

Composition & Enclosure Benefits

Tortoise Life BIO is a calcium-free soil blend containing loam, soft fine sand and coconut husk, also known as coco fibre.

  • Loam and soft fine sand create a loose, soil-like substrate texture.
  • Coconut husk makes the blend lighter and adds an organic-rich component.
  • Coco fibre helps retain moisture, making it useful for maintaining selected dampened areas.
  • The loose texture provides a practical surface for tortoises that like to dig and burrow.
  • The formulation is calcium-free.

Use the substrate as an enclosure floor covering only. It is not a food or nutritional supplement.

Setup, Humidity & Care Guide

Spread the substrate evenly across the enclosure floor, allowing enough depth for your animal's size, maturity and normal digging behaviour.

Young animals Use a minimum depth of approximately 5 cm.
Mature animals Use a substrate depth of 15 cm or more.
Russian tortoises Provide an even deeper layer where needed to accommodate extensive burrowing.
Full replacement Replace all substrate approximately every two to three weeks.

To create local humidity, lightly spray or dampen selected areas only. Avoid making the substrate excessively wet or over-saturated.

Suitability Notes

This substrate is designed for tortoises from dry habitats, with Mediterranean and Russian tortoises as its main intended users. It is also labelled for many lizard species originating from similar dry environments.
