Frozen Rats Small
Overview
Frozen Rats Small is thaw-and-feed whole prey for reptiles, especially snakes. This PLT frozen rat range is used as part of the diet of pet snakes, birds of prey and some amphibians, with the Small 100g+ size particularly suited to sub-adult boas and pythons.
The prey is ethically bred and humanely euthanised before being packed in secure clear plastic packaging. It arrives boxed with dry ice packs to help keep it frozen in transit, and more dry ice may be used in warmer weather.
Use appropriately sized prey for your animal’s species and life stage. Frozen whole prey should be handled as raw meat and prepared with good hygiene.

Feeding & Storage
- Thaw thoroughly at room temperature before feeding.
- Do not use a microwave or warm water to defrost.
- Remove uneaten food after feeding.
- Do not refreeze once thawed.
- Keep frozen and only defrost what you need.
- Keep the pack sealed in the freezer to help prevent freezer burn.
Frozen rodents are a standard raw feeding option for snakes and other reptile-eating species, but the prey size should always match the animal’s mouth width and feeding stage. Smaller prey is often the better choice for younger or smaller animals, while larger individuals need a suitably sized item from the range.
Handle preparation surfaces and tools with care, then clean and disinfect them after use because this is raw food.

Notes
- Frozen prey should always be defrosted naturally and offered only once fully thawed.
- Long tweezers are a sensible feeding aid for keeping fingers away from the strike zone.
- After handling, wash hands and tidy the prep area thoroughly.
- Store in the freezer and keep the pack sealed until needed.
- This is a raw prey food, not a complete formulated diet.
