Superpet Warehouse has been named Independent Retailer of the Year at the 2025 Pet Industry Federation Awards.
We are incredibly proud to announce that Superpet Warehouse has been crowned Independent Retailer of the Year 2025 by the Pet Industry Federation.
This is one of the most important awards in the UK pet trade, and to receive it means an enormous amount to our whole family and everyone who is part of the Superpet Warehouse team.
We were shortlisted alongside some outstanding independent pet retailers from across the country, so simply reaching the final was something worth celebrating. To hear Superpet Warehouse announced as the winner was a very special moment — and one we will never forget.
More than anything, this award recognises the hard work, care and determination that has gone into building a pet store our customers and our community can be proud of.
More than 40 years in the making
Superpet Warehouse is a genuine family business. It began in 1983, when Dave and Sue Holderness started selling pigeon food from the garage behind their council house.
From those modest beginnings, the business has grown and evolved over more than four decades. Dave and Sue remain involved as owners, while Mark and Cheryl now manage the store from day to day, supported by a dedicated team who share the same commitment to pets and their owners.
Although the shop looks very different today, the principles behind it remain the same: knowledgeable advice, carefully chosen products, friendly service and long-lasting relationships with our customers.
A landmark year
The award followed one of the busiest and most important years in our history.
After months of planning, designing, fitting out and moving stock, we opened our new Ribbleton store in January 2025. At the same time, we transformed our former shop into a dedicated goods-in warehouse to support the expanded business.
Keeping the original store running while creating its successor was a huge undertaking. Winning this award feels like recognition for the many long days, difficult decisions and extraordinary efforts made by everyone involved.
Why we never stand still
We are proud of our history, but we have never believed that a business can rely on its past. We continually seek out new products, improve the shopping experience and find better ways to help our customers care for their animals.
Our new store was shaped by everything we have learned during more than 40 years in the pet trade. It gives us more space, a broader range and an environment in which our team can offer the personal service and practical advice that independent retailers do best.
We are also continuing to develop the next stage of Superpet Warehouse, including this new website and our growing click-and-collect service. The way people shop may change, but the relationships at the heart of our business will always matter.
This award belongs to all of us
We could not have achieved this without our brilliant team, our suppliers, our family and, above all, our customers.
So many people have supported us, recommended us to friends and family, and continued to shop locally with us over the years. Every visit, every kind word and every recommendation has helped us reach this point.
