Proteins

Protein is the key building block of life. Every cell in the body contains protein; they are a major part of muscle, skin, organs and glands. There are two reasons why fish is the perfect protein for a growing pup.

Firstly, fish provides a great balance of the essential amino acids. Imbalances can require organs such as the liver and kidneys to work harder to excrete any unnecessary acids, but with fish, the ratio is so well balanced there is often very little that needs to be excreted.

Secondly, a good protein should be easily digestible so the body an break it down to get at the goodness. Fish is very easily digested and so the body can quickly and efficiently break it down to absorb the benefits.

Omega 3

Getting the right balance

Not all Omega 3 is the same. It is the DHA and EPA forms – found mainly from marine sources, which are beneficial.

The ALA form of Omega 3 found in vegetable sources such as Flaxseed oil or Linseed oil must first be converted to EPA & DHA for it to benefit, and dogs lack the enzymes to do that efficiently; so marine sourced Omega 3 is what they need.

You also need to consider the ratio of Omega 6 to Omega 3. We need both Omega 6 and Omega 3 but in the correct proportions. To put it, in not particularly scientific terms, the Omega 6 excites the system and Omega 3 calms it back down – so we need the right balance.

Omega 6 is easily found in seeds, nuts and vegetables, so ensuring your dog has a good supply of marine sourced Omega 3 in their diet to help provide that balance in key.

Grain Free

The role of the carbohydrate in dog food is to provide energy and also bind the other ingredients together.

Balanced Glycaemic Index

Glycaemic Index (GI) is the measure of the effects of carbohydrates on blood sugar levels. Carbohydrates that break down quickly and release glucose rapidly have a high GI and those that break down more slowly, a low GI.

Fish is a lovely protein – very easily digested.  In our Mackerel Morsels digestive aid we built on that by adding Prebiotics MOS & FOS and Yucca

With Prebiotic MOS and FOS:MOS (Mannan-oligosaccharides) and FOS: (Fructo-oligosaccharides) Indigestible by our bodies these provide a source of food for healthy bacteria.

With Yucca:Helping to reduce stool odour (sorry no nice way to say that) by binding ammonia and improving the bodies absorption of nutrients.
